This year, only 31 Medicare Advantage (MA) plans have achieved a 5-star rating, compared to 57 in 2023 and 74 in 2022. The pressing need for solutions to enhance performance and member experience has become evident.

Enter Nymbl, the highly engaged fall prevention and mobility enhancement platform that is revolutionizing Health Outcome Survey (HOS) results for MA plans. We often hear from health plan partners that they don’t have scalable, effective solutions to impact this sub-set of Star rating measures. And we know that improving Star ratings via survey measures requires the ability to influence a substantial portion of the member population. What sets Nymbl apart is its scalability (enabled by digital deployment) - facilitating widespread adoption across member populations.

A feasibility study involving 42,000 MA members revealed remarkable outcomes on the Reducing the Risk of Falling measure; members using Nymbl were 38% more likely to say they had discussed fall risk with their provider. Additionally, Nymbl users saw notable improvements in balance and mobility:

  • 62% of Nymbl users experienced clinically meaningful improvement in balance
  • 48% felt steadier walking
  • 70% no longer feared loss of balance at home

We know that positively impacting a member’s mobility can lead to improved health behaviors for members (i.e. being proactive and seeking preventive care or following a care plan for chronic condition management). Not to mention, the program actually saves the plan money by preventing falls!

Nymbl also saw impacts to other HOS measures:

  • Improving or Maintaining Physical Health
  • Improving or Maintaining Mental Health
  • Monitoring Physical Activity

Moreover, Nymbl's newest program is focused on bladder health and urinary urgency, which relates directly to the Improving Bladder Control HOS measure. Nymbl’s Bladder pilot program (deployed in Q4 2023; white paper /forthcoming) showcases significant potential in its ability to improve bladder control and quality of life amongst 10,000 pilot Nymbl Bladder users. During the pilot, personalized interventions, delivered via an automated system, were proven to encourage engagement and facilitate crucial conversations between members and providers.

  • At baseline, 59% of Nymbl Bladder users with complaints of incontinence indicated they had not discussed bladder symptoms with their doctor
    • 18% of Nymbl users engaged in the Bladder program converted from a “no” to a “yes” in just the first 3 months of using the program, indicating they discussed the topic with their doctor as a result of Nymbl
    • An additional 67% indicated an increased likelihood to discuss bladder symptoms with their doctor after the pilot period

Beyond impacts to Star ratings, Nymbl also addresses social determinants of health (SDOH) such as transportation, loneliness and social isolation. By improving balance, members increase mobility, which means they can resume or increase participation in activities outside the home, including social engagement and access to transportation. By impacting quality of life, Nymbl’s platform also improved satisfaction and members’ intent to renew with the plan.

By prioritizing member health outcomes and satisfaction, Nymbl not only offers a solution for improving Star Ratings, but also contributes to improved member experience and reduced cost of care for plans. Care to learn more?
